stopped-extension-dll-exception in Forefront when trying to DirSync

I encountered a problem in Forefront today where I received the following error message:

Name:  Windows Azuer Active Directory Connector

Profile Name:  Delta Import Delta Sync

Status:  stopped-extension-dll-exception

The problem as I discovered was that the password for the user account used to authenticate DirSync  had expired.  Once the passowrd was changed, the Directory Sync Configuration program was rerun.  Syncs are now occurring as expected.
